Food Park

Location: Pala, Kottayam
Built-up area: Approx. 3,00,000 sq.ft
Status: Unbuilt

The proposed masterplan envisions a contemporary industrial food-processing campus that integrates efficient production infrastructure with publicly accessible recreational landscapes. At its core, this 19 acre campus accommodates a diverse range of food processing and storage facilities, including specialised production plants, warehousing, packaging, and cold storage functions. The various industrial buildings are strategically positioned according to their operational relationships, creating an efficient workflow across the site while minimising internal conflicts between production activities and circulation networks.

A defining feature of the proposal is the establishment of a clear one-way vehicular circulation system. Industrial vehicles move along a continuous loop road that connects all processing and storage facilities. This unidirectional traffic strategy improves operational efficiency, reduces congestion and streamlines loading and distribution activities.

The masterplan introduces a public interface through the recreational promenade located adjacent to the artificial lake. This landscaped open space transforms a traditionally closed industrial facility into a more community-oriented destination. Complementing the industrial infrastructure is an integrated pedestrian network that runs alongside the circulation loop. This public walkway creates a safe and accessible route through the development, allowing visitors to experience the site without interfering with industrial operations. Together, these elements establish a unique relationship between industry, landscape, and public life, creating a welcoming edge to the development.
